Overview


 This guide provides a brief overview on how to create a prescription within the Medical-Objects Explorer (Meridian).

 User account Permission to access Prescription system

  1. To access Prescription system, your account should have permission as shown below.

How to Access Prescription System

  1. Go to Create Document, New patient, and select Quick Script.

     2. If the patients file is already open, you can go to Create Document, Current Patient, and select Quick Script for Current patient.


   3. You will be presented with the following window.

  • Patient details
  • Product / Generic / Both / Custom Radio buttons to choose before what kind of medicine User would like to search. By default, it will be Both.
  • Custom radio button to be clicked if User would like to prescribe custom medication.
  • Frequency - User can select frequency from dropdown options.
  • Indication - To describe the reason for prescription creation.
  • Instructions - To define Instructions for the medication.
  • Repeat Intervals



Note: You can be able to create prescription for the patient who has IHI No with status Active and Verified only.

Search for the Medicine or Create Custom Medicine

  1. You can search for the medicine (Product / Generic / Both / Custom) and select the medicine from the list in Medication section.

 


   2. If you would like to prescribe the custom medication, click on Custom radio button and click on the Extemporaneous/Custom tab. You will be presented with the window as shown below.



3. If you would like to prescribe the medication that more than Official quantity, you need to provide the Authority number.



4. Schedule 8 medicine: You can prescribe schedule 8 medicine, the system will ask you to provide a Authorisation Number and Re-authentication before finalize the prescription to ensure that the prescription is being created by an authorised prescriber.



The system will be present the authorisation reference number as:

  • "Authorisation number" in NSW and NT
  • "Authority number" in WA and TAS
  • "Approval number" in QLD and ACT
  • "Permit number" in SA
  • "Warrant number" in VIC.



Note: all states and territories use the same authority number concept and the authority number performs the same function across states and territories. Systems and databases are utilise the same field/attribute, but it will be presented according to this requirement.

Create a Paper Prescription

  1. By default, paper prescription is enabled for all users.



     2. To create a paper prescription, search and select a medicine and input all mandatory fields. Click on Print Preview.



3. Click on Save and Print.



 Create a E-Prescription (Electronic Prescription)

  1. To create E-Prescription, search and select the medication and input all mandatory fields. Enable E-prescription to Electronic.
  2. Now Treatment type, Annotation, Unusual Dosage, Emergency supply, Send to Pharmacy and Exclude Active Script List fields are enabled.



3. Click on Print Preview. It will display Evidence of Prescription with details of Patient, Prescriber and Medication.



4. Once you click on Save and Print button, It will ask you to select a token (Paper / SMS / Email).



5. Select Paper as a E-Prescription token, It will print the Evidence of Prescription as below.



6. Select Email as a prescription token, it will send an E-prescription to the patient's email.



7. Prescription was sent to the patient's email.



8. Select SMS as a prescription token, It will send an E-prescription to the patient's Mobile.



8. To create an Emergency (Urgent) Supply or Send to Pharmacy Prescription, the system will allow you to generate E-Paper Prescription. It will not allow send token (SMS/Email).



Note: If you prescribes an Emergency/Urgent supply or Unusual dosage or More than the official Quantity, the system will record and capture the indication.


Patient's Prescription History

  1. Look up for the patient and go to Patients -> Prescription History.



2. You will be presented with the Patient's Prescription History Window.



3. System will allow you to do actions like Re-Print, Re-Prescribe, Edit, Cancel, Cease and Re-issue the prescription.



    Note: A prescription that has been dispensed cannot be corrected or cancelled.

4. Edit Prescription:

  • To Edit the Prescription, Right click on prescription and click on Edit Prescription. You will be presented with below window.
  •  And the system will allow you to edit Instructions and change token.  



  • Once you done with edit, prescription state changed to EDIT in Prescription history.

   


5. Cancel Prescription:

  • To Cancel the Prescription, Right click on the prescription and click on Canel Prescription. You will be presented with below window.
  • Click on "Confirm Cancel". 

  • Once you confirm the cancel, prescription state changed to CANCEL in Prescription history.

     

    

  • If patient trying to access "Cancelled" Prescription using URL, system will present the screen as below.

   

6. Cease Prescription:

  • To Cease the Prescription, Right click on the prescription and click on Cease Prescription. You will be presented with below window.


  •  Once you click on Confirm Cease, Prescription state changed to CEASE in the Prescription History.

 


  •  If patient trying to access the "Cease" prescription using URL Prescription, system will present the screen as below.

 

7. Re-Issue Prescription:

  • To Re-issue the prescription, Right click on the prescription and click on Re-Issue Prescription. You will be presented with below window.

   


  • Once you click on Confirm Reissue, Prescription state changed to CEASE in the Prescription History.

 


8. Re-Prescribe

  • To Re-Prescribe the prescription, Right click on the prescription and click on Re-Prescribe. You will be presented with below window.

   

  •     The system will allow you to make changes before finalizing the prescription.

9. The System will allow you to Reprint the Prescription.
